FACES OF FLOYD: Louis Schmitt

President Schmitt Furniture. Worked for family company for 22 years.

What do you like the best about your job?

“The customers, the community and my family. That’s an emotional question there.

First and foremost, I love my family. You grow up with them and get to work with them, and the tradition involved is great. A lot of your customers are your friends and people you know, or people in the community. I like the small town atmosphere, this is a great town.”

What do you find challenging about your work?

“Exceeding customer expectations in an unsettled economy. You want to satisfy them. It’s not impossible, but it can be difficult at times. From the furniture side of the business, the economy has been slow going into the recession and is slow coming out of it. You’ve got to appreciate being in business, and every employee and customer is someone you have to take seriously. They’re the reason you’re here.”
