FACES OF FLOYD: Mike Matthews

NAME Mike Matthews

POSITION Evening Building Supervisor, YMCA of Floyd County. Worked at Jeffersonville YMCA for five years, then moved to this location last year.

What do you do?

“I just supervise the entire building with security and safety. I give tours to people interested in joining the YMCA and give them insight and information on all of the programs we offer. It’s kind of a combination of ombudsman and service, I also field any complaints we might get or suggestions people have for us.”

What do you like about your job?

“I like the whole mission of the YMCA, to provide programs for all. For me, it’s more than just a job. It’s a mission that I support to provide positive mind, body and spirit for everyone.”

What do you find challenging about your work?

“The number of people we have, it’s hard to keep everyone completely satisfied. My job is to make sure people are as happy as possible. It’s a challenge, but an opportunity as well to correct any problems or field any suggestions.”
