Indiana Attorney General recognizes Providence grad

By DAVID MANN

Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter was in the area Wednesday to honor and recognize Greg Zoeller, a local man who has served as chief deputy for the office for the past two years.

Too often in Indianapolis, people are not recognized in their home communities for the service they perform, Carter told an audience who had gathered at Falls of the Ohio State Park at a reception for Zoeller.

There are 125 lawyers at the attorney general’s office. “Greg is really one of the stars” as far as the creativity he brings to the job, Carter said. He called him a leader in his field, “well-known with our colleagues around the country.”

Carter noted that Zoeller has offered advice to the Washington, D.C., attorney general’s office and the Kansas attorney general’s office during his career.

Zoeller was born in New Albany and grew up in Clarksville, where he graduated from Providence High School.

He’s been director and chief operating officer of the World Trade Center of Indiana since 1999. He served then-senator Dan Quayle in both Washington and Indiana in legislative and executive capacities. He also served Quayle as his assistant from 1989-1991. He was a special assistant to United States Attorney General Richard Thornburg in 1988.

During Wednesday’s event he said, “I consider it a real privilege to serve the state.”
