IUS VOLLEYBALL: IU Southeast comes back to defeat Lindsey Wilson in four

After dropping the first set Tuesday night at the Southeast Activities Building, the Indiana University Southeast volleyball team won the next three sets to defeat Lindsey Wilson, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17.

Senior middle blocker Vanessa Stauble paced the Grenadiers (4-2) with a match-high 18 kills. She also led IUS in blocks with six, four of which were block assists.

Senior setter Stacey Flatt set up most of Stauble’s kills by dishing out a match-high 32 assists. Sophomore Lindsey Rumph was the Grenadiers’ defensive leader with 13 digs, while Silver Creek graduate and current freshman Lindsey Maymon added 11.

Also for IUS, Pamela Cockerell and Shirley Roxanne Acree each spiked six kills, Kara Draper had three blocks and Floyd Central graduate Lauren McCartin made four digs. Cockerell also had three blocks.

Three Floyd County natives played for Lindsey Wilson. Senior setter Sarah Kline, a Floyd Central alumnus, led the Blue Raiders with 16 assists. Kline also had 12 digs and five kills.

Christian Academy of Indiana product Kayla Koerber, a Floyds Knobs native, had six kills and a match-high seven blocks (all assisted) for Lindsey Wilson (0-2).

Freshman teammate Ashlie Haworth, also a Floyd grad, collected a match-high 19 digs, a team-high eight kills and four blocks. Haworth helped the Highlanders reach the IHSAA Class 4A State Finals in 2007 and 2008.

IU Southeast will return to action on Thursday, hosting Campbellsville.
