Bridge work results in road closures, restrictions

CLARK COUNTY — The following closures and lane restrictions are expected this week and next week in connection with construction on the downtown portion of the Ohio River Bridges Project.

Work underway in Louisville that will affect motorists includes, the closure of Witherspoon Street, from Adams Street to River Road, through Saturday, Oct. 19 for pile driving in the area. Parking lanes are also closed on Witherspoon from Slugger Field to Adams Street for related work through Saturday, Oct. 26.

Jackson Street, from Jefferson Street to Market Street, is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, Oct. 19, for pile driving in the area.

The right lane and right parking lane on Market Street, from Jackson Street to Hancock Street, are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, Oct. 26, for abutment work.

The left lane of Main Street, from Hancock Street to Jackson Street, is scheduled to be closed through Friday, Oct. 25, for work on retaining walls.

Work scheduled for this week in Louisville includes construction scheduled to begin Saturday, Oct. 19, on the above-mentioned Jackson Street closure will be lifted and the restrictions limited to the right lane and right parking lane through Saturday, Oct. 26, for abutment work.

The right parking lane of Floyd Street, from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Liberty Street, is scheduled to be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 19, for soil removal.

The ramp from Interstate 64 east to Interstate 71 north is scheduled to close overnight Monday, Oct. 21, for temporary striping. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.

Work scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 21, includes the two right lanes and right parking lane of Jefferson Street will be closed from Jackson Street to Market Street from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, for abutment removal.

The right lane of I-64 west to I-65 south between Witherspoon Street and Main Street is scheduled to close overnight Monday, Oct. 21, and Tuesday, Oct. 22, for beam work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.

The right lane of I-65 south from Witherspoon Street to Jefferson Street is scheduled to close overnight Monday, Oct. 21, through Thursday, Oct. 24, for demolition work in the area. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

The left lane of I-64 east from Ninth Street to the I-71 north ramp is scheduled to close overnight Monday, Oct. 21, for temporary wall installation. It’s expected to close around 11 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, Oct. 22, includes Jackson Street will be closed from Jefferson Street to Market Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for concrete pouring.

Alternating lane restrictions on Market Street from Hancock Street to Jackson Street are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for pile driving.

The left lane and left parking lane of Preston Street are scheduled to be closed from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, and Thursday, Oct. 24, for abutment work.

Indiana Side

- Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to Sixth Street. This includes the closure of the Sixth Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

- Seventh Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street.  This is a permanent closure.

- VFW Boulevard has closed from Seventh Street to Ninth Street. This is a permanent closure.                                                                                                

- U.S. 31 south [Exit Ramp 1] from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes for several months.

- U.S. 31 south, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane for several months. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.
