Develop New Albany holiday ornament on sale

Historic Town Clock Church featured

NEW ALBANY — Develop New Albany’s sixth edition of its holiday ornament will feature the historic Town Clock Church, which is located at 300 Main St.

The church is the focus of a rehabilitation effort, as community leaders and the Second Baptist Church congregation that worships there are attempting to raise about $400,000 to refurbish the 19th century building. One of the features organizers are looking to add is a replica of the steeple that once sat atop the church before being damaged almost 100 years ago.

The holiday ornaments are being sold for $15, and proceeds will benefit downtown revitalization efforts including the Town Clock Church project.

“We thought it was appropriate to honor Town Clock Church this year as a community effort is under way to restore the building’s iconic steeple and exterior,” Develop New Albany Board President Susan Kaempfer said.

Past buildings to be featured in the collection were the Schmitt Furniture, Kaiser Tobacco, Floyd County branch of the YMCA of Southern Indiana, River City Winery and Calumet Club structures.

The past ornaments along with the new edition to the series are available for purchase at The Gallery on Pearl, Colokial, Dress & Dwell, Antiques Attic, Opal Gypsy, J.O. Endris Jewelers and Strandz & Threadz.
