Uptown businesses in New Albany to raise money for charity

Saturday showcase to benefit Hope Southern Indiana

NEW ALBANY — Downtown businesses were spotlighted during the city’s Light Up New Albany festival, so this weekend, some uptown establishments have organized their own holiday showcase.

More than 10 uptown businesses will take part in an open house and ornament walk on Saturday to benefit Hope Southern Indiana.

Participants are asked to register and begin the walk at the Calumet Club, 1614 E. Spring St., where they will receive a map of participating businesses and be given the initial piece of their Christmas ornament.

At each stop, participants will get another piece of the decoration until the ornament is completed. After they have received each ornament piece, participants are invited to return to the Calumet Club for live entertainment, cider, snacks and beer or wine.

People that register for the walk are automatically entered for door prizes, but they will receive an extra chance for each $10 they spend at participating businesses.

The walk will run from 1 to 4 p.m. with the drawings to be held at 3:55 p.m.

The event is free to attend and many of the businesses will be offering discounts to coincide with the walk. Donations for Hope Southern Indiana are encouraged.

Businesses that will be participating include Strandz Salon & Threadz Boutique, Posh Salon, Bush Keller Sporting Goods, Box of Chocolates, Bliss Travel and Southern Indiana Paint Supply.
