Clark Memorial Bridge gets bike markings

— Louisville officials began painting shared-lane markings, or “sharrows,” on the right-hand lanes of the Clark Memorial Bridge on Wednesday afternoon. The markings’ purpose, according to city officials, is to let motorists and bicyclists know that the lane is intended to be shared equally between users.
The move comes just about one month after the death of George “Chips” Cronen, a Louisville man who was killed on his bike ride across the Clark Memorial Bridge during his commute home from his Clarksville workplace.
The markings also encourage cyclists to ride in the road, rather than the sidewalks, and to ride further toward the center of the lane. The markings will first be installed on the Clark Memorial Bridge, with other metro roads seeing them in the coming months.
