A Washington County woman who was reportedly driving more than 100 mph on Interstate 65 from Memphis to Scottsburg on Monday evening has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless driving, both misdemeanor offenses.

The charges were filed against 30-year-old Maria Smith, of Little York, in Scott County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Smith was released to home detention, according to a jail official.

Indiana State Police Trooper Steve Didat said Smith was “extremely intoxicated” and driving erratically just before 6 p.m. She reportedly ran over a construction sign.

Didat said there was no pursuit and Smith pulled over in Scott County.
