Clark Prosecutor Stewart announces plans for re-election

Stewart has held position since 1989

Clark County Prosecutor Steve Stewart will seek re-election.

Stewart made the announcement Wednesday at an event at Preservation Station in downtown Jeffersonville.

“I still got a fire burning inside,” Stewart said when asked why he was interested in continuing the job. He said he believes his office has done fine work over the years and he wants to continue.

Stewart has been county prosecutor since 1989. Prior to that we worked as an assistant commonwealth attorney across the river in Louisville.

Asked if he’d ever considered not running for the post, he said, “the last [Clark County] Council meeting gave me second thoughts,” noting that budget cuts loomed for the office. Shirts were handed out, signs were posted and dinner was served during the event, which was well-attended by some of the county’s most frequent newsmakers.

Jeffersonville Councilman Keith Fetz, attorney Scott Lewis and Greater Clark County Schools Superintendent Stephen Daeschner were in attendance.

High profile attorney Larry Wilder was one of the first to arrive, bringing supplies for the event.

Asked if he planned to be a part of Stewart’s campaign, Wilder said he was only in attendance to eat.

“I don’t even like politics,” he joked.
