Greater Clark hosting conferences

Greater Clark County Schools will offer parent-teacher conferences beginning the week of Nov. 9, with conference times varying by school.

On Nov. 10 will be elementary school conferences; Nov. 11 will be middle-school conferences; and Nov. 12 will be high school conferences.

Parents should contact their child’s school if they have questions.

School sets dates for talks

New Washington Middle/High School will host its parent-teacher conferences from 3:15 to 6:45 p.m. Nov. 12.

Carla Hobson will also host a New Washington and Beyond workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. that day for parents and students in grades 9 to 12.

The workshop will focus on preparing for life after high school, with information about college and careers.

Parks hosting trip to Beef & Boards

Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department will host an adult trip to “A Beef & Boards Christmas” Dec. 16 in Indianapolis, with the deadline to register being Monday.

Join the Beef & Boards family for songs, holiday greetings and even a visit from Santa, all delivered in a variety-show format. Visit beefandboards.com for more information on the show. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from Clarksville Town Hall, 2000 Broadway, Clarksville, and return at 5 p.m.

Groups to host toy and poker run

The Friends of ABATE and the North Clark Outreach Center invite area bikers to participate in the fourth-annual Toy/Poker Run, starting with registration at 11 a.m. and the run beginning at noon Saturday at Fink’s Sales and Service, 202 W. Main St., New Albany.

Bikes, as well as antique and custom cars, are invited to register. A $100 prize will be awarded at the end of the run to the vehicle with the best hand. There also will be a split-the-pot drawing and food provided at the North Clark Outreach Center, 240 Harrison St., Charlestown, where the Toy/Poker Run will conclude.

Proceeds from the run will benefit the North Clark Outreach Center’s Elf Tree, which has helped more than 150 children each of the last five years during the holidays.

Cost of participation is $10 per bike or car plus one toy, new and in its original packaging. Monetary donations will be accepted in lieu of a toy.

Genealogical Society hosts meeting

The Southern Indiana Genealogical Society will host a meeting with state archeologist Rick Jones III, Ph.D., for a program on Native Americans of Southern Indiana from 7 to 8:20 p.m. Thursday at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.

Sister Jean Madeline to be honored

A reception honoring Sister Jean Madeline Peake will take place Nov. 22 at St. Bartholomew Church, 2040 Buechel Bank Road, Louisville. After Mass at 11 a.m., a reception will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the parish hall — Barth Hall.

There will be a slide show featuring Sister Jean Madeline, and displays will feature her quilting, along with information about her order, the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph. Refreshments will be served.

Sister Jean Madeline is celebrating her 75th year of religious life. She taught in the Archdioceses of St. Louis as well as the Archdiocese of Louisville, and the Diocese of Owensboro, Ky. She also ministered in Jeffersonville.

She spent 48 years as a teacher or principal in Affton, Mo., and in Owensboro, Central City, Calvary, Wax, Harrodsburg and Buechel in Kentucky. Today, she continues to make quilts for the Ursuline Sisters’ Quilt Club raffles.
