A 23-year-old Louisville man was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly robbing a convenience store on State Street in New Albany.

Two men entered the Better Buy Food Mart, located at 2109 State St., and demanded money, according to Capt. Keith Whitlow of the New Albany Police Department.

“At least one was armed with a handgun,” he said.

Terrance Lamont Bethel, who told police he lives on the 1100 block of Algonquian Parkway in Louisville, was arrested on the 500 block of Fenwick Drive in New Albany shortly after the robbery.

“Witnesses were able to furnish an adequate description of the suspect, and Mr. Bethel was located and arrested after a short time,” Whitlow said.

Investigating officers recovered a handgun and other evidence connecting Bethel to the robbery, Whitlow said.

A second suspect is still at large. Police are not releasing information about the second suspect due to concerns it may jeopardize the pending investigation.

Bethel was taken to the Floyd County Jail on preliminary charges of robbery, a class B felony, and possession of a handgun without a permit, a class A misdemeanor.

According to court officials, Bethel will not be formally charged until Friday.

Buckman was preliminarily charged with dealing a controlled substance, a class A felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony. Carroll faces a charge of dealing in a controlled substance, a class A felony.
