Fire takes Memphis home

No one was at the house at the time of the blaze

MEMPHIS — No one was injured during a fire that destroyed a Memphis home late Thursday night.

Henryville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Boyce Adams said the vacant “old farm house” was being renovated for occupancy, and that work at the home had been completed as recently as earlier in the day.

Adams said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but said it’s likely the fire was due to an electrical malfunction. The blaze started in the attic, Adams said, and resulted in “significant damage,” but he couldn’t say whether the home would be a total loss.

Henryville and Monroe Township firefighters responded to the blaze, which was well underway on their arrival.

“It was burning for a pretty good length of time before it was called in,” Adams said, adding that a passing motorist had altered authorities of the fire. “It got a good head start before someone driving by noticed it.”

He said the home is located along Bennettsville Road, near intersecting Horizon Drive.
