CLARK COUNTY

Advocates holding fundraiser

The Children and Family Advocates of Clark County will be holding their second annual fundraiser from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Kye’s II, 500 Missouri Ave., Jeffersonville.

Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $15 per person. Music will be provided by Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet. There will be a silent and live auction. Speakers will be Sally Erny, chief program officer, National CASA and Janet Ward, regional program officer, National CASA.

Children and Family Advocates is a nonprofit organization established in 2011 to raise funds and community awareness for the Family Court programs that serve the children and families of Clark County.

Chuy’s event to benefit 1p36 deletion syndrome

Chuy’s along Veterans Parkway in Clarksville will host a fundraiser on Monday, June 17, for those who suffer from 1p36 deletion syndrome. A child of one of the employees at Chuy’s has the disease, which is a genetic disorder that causes severe intellectual disabilities.

Guests have to tell their sever on Monday that they are at Chuy’s in support of 1p36 deletion and 10 percent of their bill will be donated to the organization. In addition the patio will have kids’ games, a face painting booth, corn hole toss, fish pond and a few other activities. There will be a $1 charge for some activities and all funds will be given to 1p36 deletion support and awareness of Southern Indiana. There will also be a basket of goodies that will be raffled off.   

 

Tea Party to meet Thursday

 The Clark County Tea Party invites the public to the group's weekly meeting, 6:30 to 8 p.m., June 13, at Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.

Guest speaker will be Dan Sexson, regional field director for the John Birch Society.

FLOYD COUNTY

Floyd Co. AARP to meet

AARP, Floyd County Chapter, will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, at St. John's Church, at the corner of 13th and Elm streets, New Albany.

Guest speaker will be Nancy Strickland, head of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library History Room, who will speak on genealogy. There will be a 50/50 drawing and refreshments provided. Guests welcome.

40 & 8 holding flag disposal ceremony

The 40 & 8 Voiture Local 1250 club, 221 Albany St., New Albany, will hold a flag disposal ceremony at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the club.

Residents are encouraged to bring old flags that have become faded and worn. The old flags will be retired with respect, reverence and honor.

All are welcome to attend the ceremony.

 

Flag Retirement Ring in Georgetown June 15

The Georgetown Town Council would like to invite the community to the dedication of a Flag Retirement Ring at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Georgetown Community Park. The rain date will be Saturday, June 22. The Georgetown Community Park is located at the corner of Water Street and Wissman Road in Georgetown.

This dedication is the culmination of an Eagle Scout Project by Boy Scouts of America Life Scout Shaw Ray for the benefit of the citizens of Georgetown and surrounding communities. 

BSA Crew 2010 and Troop 4025 will be conducting a flag retirement ceremony, and the community is invited to bring any worn U.S. Flags to the dedication for retirement. Flags may also be dropped off at the Georgetown Town Council Office during normal business hours.

SOUTHERN INDIANA

Falls hosting George Rogers Clark Days

The Falls of the Ohio State Park will celebrate the life and times of George Rogers Clark on June 22-23. George Rogers Clark Days will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the George Rogers Clark Home Site, 1102 W. Harrison Ave., Clarksville. 

Wes and Donna Griffin will perform period music on the hammered dulcimer on June 22 from 1 to 3 p.m.  Re-enactors portraying members of the Clark Family and 18th- and 19th-century militiamen, surveyors and frontiersmen will appear throughout the event. The event also will include atlatl throwing (Indian spear throwing), vendors with period crafts, speakers, musicians, children’s activities and more. 

Special tours of the Clark and McGee cabins and gardens will be given. The Clark Home Site is part of the Falls of the Ohio State Park,  201 W. Riverside Dr., Clarksville,
