Council OKs noise ordinance

The following items were voted on at the Charlestown City Council meeting Tuesday night.

• Ordinance 2009-OR-08, a noise ordinance, was approved at the meeting allowing for a stipulation to apply for an exclusion if a person knows they are going to create noise from tasks such as construction or parades. The exclusion must be applied for and approved by the board of public works.

If the exclusion is not approved by the board of public works, the decision can be appealed to the council.

• A bond ordinance was approved totaling $1 million to conduct a study of an aquifer that may lead to construction of new wells near the south end of Charlestown State Park.

Funding for the project is through the State Revolving Fund, and if construction is approved, it will be paid for by federal economic stimulus funding, according to administration reports.
