The 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday events in Jeffersonville have been set, with a theme of: “Have We Forgotten the Dream ...?
9 a.m. Jan. 19, at Jeffersonville High School, 2315 Allison Lane. Guest speaker will be Andrew Melin, superintendent, Greater Clark County Schools. Special music guests will be the choirs from Bridgepoint and Thomas Jefferson Elementary schools. Full buffet breakfast, $20, Corporate tables of eight, $200. For tickets call 502-649-1771. 12:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, motorcade to Memorial Service at 1 p.m., at First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1506 Spring St., Jeffersonville. Poster/Multimedia contest winners, King Scholarship winners and Freedom and Justice Awards presented.
K of C hosting chicken dinner
The Knights of Columbus, 225 E. Market St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat chicken dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 11 at the K of C Hall.
The menu will be chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese, potatoes and gravy, slaw, drink and dessert is $8.
A large portion of the proceeds will be given to Father Tom for the Haiti Disaster Relief Fund.
Art program beginning this year
Beginning in 2013, the Jeffersonville Township Public Library will be offering a continuing monthly series titled “ArtSpace: Learn Create Enjoy.”
To start off this series, Artist Ray Day will be showcased from 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 19.
A teacher for 34 years at Our Lady of Providence High School, Day developed Studio Arts and Theatre Arts programs, produced and directed drama and musical productions, taught Acting and Theatre Production and served as designer and technical director through 1988. Day continued teaching Studio Art until retiring in March 1996. Following six years of full-time art work, he returned to Providence in 2002 as Director of Development and Institutional Advancement.

Archaeological society to meet
The Falls of the Ohio Archaeological Society meeting will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center, 201 W. Riverside Drive, Clarksville.
Mindi Wetzel, staff archaeologist for Corn Island Archaeology, will present information the firm’s investigations at Colson Park in Jeffersonville. Records indicated the site was originally the Old City Cemetery, which was confirmed by their excavations.

Christian Academy hosting homecoming
On Saturday, Jan. 5, the Christian Academy of Indiana Warriors will host alumni events, starting at 1 p.m.
Events for the day will include an alumni game at 1 p.m., recognition of the homecoming court at 7:15 p.m., along with recognition of the ’98 and ’99 regional championship teams during halftime of the boys varsity game, and an alumni hospitality reception from 6 to 8 p.m. during the varsity girls and boys basketballs games against Christian Academy of Louisville.
“We are excited to be hosting our annual alumni game along with our homecoming game against Christian Academy of Louisville,” says Steve Kerberg, varsity boys basketball coach and Graceland Christian School graduate, in a news release. “We desire to have a strong connection between our past alumni and our athletic programs. We want to extend an invitation to all of our alumni for this special day.”

Holy Family to present ‘Endless Summer’
The Holy Family theatre group will present “Endless Summer” on Jan. 18-19, at Marchino Hall, 129 W. Daisy Lane, New Albany. It will be the group’s 29th production.
The show is from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday’s performance is family night and the Saturday production is for adults 21-and-over.
The doors open both nights at 6:45 p.m. Recommended donation is $5 for adults and $3 for high school age and younger.

Mardi Gras bash coming Feb. 9
Goodwill Southern Indiana’s Mardi Gras Bash 2013 will be from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Horseshoe Southern Indiana, 11999 Casino Center Drive SE, Elizabeth.
Featured will be live Dixieland Jazz performed by Market Street Stompers, silent and live auction, magician and juggler, raffle, dinner buffet and cash bar.
