JEFFERSONVILLE — The Center for Lay Ministries/Bliss House Committee announced the 2013 recipient of the prestigious Bliss House Sue LaRue Service Award, Sandy McCauley.
McCauley has dedicated many hours of volunteer time during the past seven years to help the Bliss House accomplish their mission of recovery of women dependent on drugs and alcohol. Several committee members nominated McCauley because of her continued dedication to ease the suffering of individuals addicted to drugs and alcohol. Specifically, McCauley served on the committee as a member, fundraising chairperson and committee chairperson.
During McCauley’s tenure as committee chairperson, there were many changes to the structure of the organization and also the committee. The positive changed occurred primarily because of her progressive thinking and natural ability to facilitate thoughtful discussion, according to a press release.
Prior to current Director Julie Schwerer coming on board with Bliss House, McCauley served as the interim director. One of the committee nominators, Carolyn Basham, wrote of McCauley, “She has always been a voice of reason and compassion and those qualities have helped to shape the Bliss House ministry into the success it is today.”
For all McCauley has done to assist in the mission of the Bliss House, she will be honored at its annual fundraiser, Valentine Bliss, at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at 300 Spring, Jeffersonville. The public is invited to attend Valentine Bliss to celebrate the successes of the Bliss House and the award presentation.
The event is the organization’s ninth annual fundraiser. This year it will include a dinner, huge silent auction, brief live auction and a short ceremony. Dress is dressy-casual attire. Cost is $50 per person and reservations can be made by contacting Michelle Crick at 502-445-1420.
