Wednesday is National Walking Day

Studies show that for every hour of vigorous physical activity, a person can gain an average of two hours of life expectancy. Regular physical activity, like walking, is critical to maintaining a healthy heart, which is why the American Heart Association encourages area residents to begin a 30-minute walking routine on National Walking Day, which is Wednesday, April 3.

On this day, individuals and company groups are encouraged to wear tennis shoes to work and get moving for a healthier heart. This year several local companies have scheduled events around National Walking Day including Kindred Healthcare, the University of Louisville, Fifth Third Bank, KentuckyOne Health, Brown-Forman, UPS and Texas Roadhouse.
