JEFF Fest to offer food, fun in Jeffersonville

Family event is on Saturday

JEFFERSONVILLE — Preservation Park will be filled with shaved ice, inflatable houses and pony rides again as JEFF Fest returns this Saturday.

The free event, which stands for “Jeffersonville Entire Family Fun,” will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. complete with crafts, booths, live performances and other family-friendly activities at the park, 100 E. Market St.

Jay Ellis, executive director of Jeffersonville Main Street Inc., said the fest is a good chance for residents to come out and see the historic district during its period of resurgence.

“There are activities and interests for all age groups,” Ellis said. “Where else can you go and get an afternoon’s worth of fun for practically free? I think that’s a pretty rare and wonderful offering.”

There will be live performances throughout the festival. The Utility Brothers will play music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., students from Dance Sensation will perform at 1 p.m., and Kevin Rees will play at 2 p.m. until the end of the festival.

Only food and anything purchased from any of the 35 booths will cost money.

“[The booths have] everything from nonprofit information to jewelry and beads to animal rescue to child adoption,” Ellis said.

Ellis also said one of these booths will host a local plant sale.

“They’re all native plants that people have grown, propagated and dug up from their yards,” he said.

Plants will be “dirt cheap,” ranging from about 50 cents to $7 or so.
