Hosparus offering free training

Hosparus Southern Indiana needs patient support volunteers in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties and will host free training at its new location in New Albany, 502 Hausfeldt Lane, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 25, with lunch provided.

Volunteers help with patient and family support, administrative duties and development/fundraising. Hosparus carefully selects volunteers and provides them with comprehensive training specially designed to meet the needs of patients and families. Hosparus volunteers must have available transportation and complete training and an application process.

eReader information sessions at library today

Did you get a new eReader during the holidays? Want to use it to read or listen to the library’s downloadable eBooks and audiobooks?

 The library will be offering two hands-on sessions this month in the library auditorium to learn how to set up, download and return books with your device. The iPad or other iOS device session will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The Kindle Fire session will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30.

You will need a NA-FC, Jeffersonville or Charlestown library card to access our collection. Space is limited, so call 812-949-3523 to register.

Students to celebrate school choice

New Albany-area students, who attend online school through Hoosier Academies, will be taking part in a huge national event to celebrate National School Choice Week, 10 to 11:30 a.m.,  Jan. 31, at the New Albany Public Library, 180 West Spring St., New Albany

The event will feature an art show to help celebrate Art Appreciation Month and school choice. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their art for friends and family to admire, as well as get the chance to play games. Additionally, families can receive more information about Hoosier Academies and online learning.

National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for children – including traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online schools, and homeschooling.


$10,000 raffle begins Feb. 22

Jeffersonville High School Band Boosters is again Raffling off $10,000. There will only be 1,000 tickets sold. The drawing will take place Feb. 22 during half time at the JHS boys varsity basketball game.

Bureau presenting national speaker

Clark/Floyd Counties Convention and Tourism Bureau and the Southeast ISBDC are sponsoring a national speaker, Marc Willson, on "Staying Relevant to a Changed Customer." This workshop will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Feb. 18, at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, 211 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville.

Willson brings 35 years of experience to bear helping retail, restaurant and tourism-related small businesses refine and promote their concepts to the public. He will focus on helping businesses determine why their offering is unique, who their customers are, and how to reach them. He joined the SBDC in 2009 as a Retail and Restaurant Consultant and has delivered more than 300 seminars and assisted more than 1000 retailers and restaurateurs throughout the country.

Falls meeting date changed

The Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center Building Corporation annual meeting scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24 has been changed.

The meeting will now be held Friday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. in the Executive Conference Room at Clarksville Town Hall, 2000 Broadway, Clarksville.


Sharpen your SAT skills

Getting ready for college? Want to see what the SAT is like? Come give yourself some practice at the Sellersburg Library. Teresa Smith of Sylvan Learning Centers will administer a practice SAT test, 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Sellersburg Library, 430 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.

This program is open to students 12 to 18.

Registration is required and limited to 12.

Anime discussion at library

Anime Club at the Sellersburg Library, 430 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg. Anime fan, come join the club to watch an episode (or two) and discuss anime and manga at the Sellersburg Library.

This program will be at 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3 and again Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. This program is open to youth 13-18. Registration is required. Call the library at 812-246-4493.
