City council moves up meeting

The Jeffersonville City Council has changed its Monday, May 5, meeting time to 1 p.m. instead of the regular 7 p.m.

The council will still meet in the council chamber on the first floor of City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court.

Turn restrictions coming to ramp

Drivers on Interstate 65 North taking exit 0 into downtown Jeffersonville will not be able to turn left onto Court Avenue because of ongoing road work in the area.

The change is expected to begin Tuesday, May 6, and continue into June. A signed detour will be in place.

Dog-friendly 5K scheduled

Southern Indiana Animal Rescue will sponsor Fido’s 5K Run-Walk on Saturday, May 10. Registration is $25 at 7:30 a.m. the day of the race, which begins at 9 a.m.

Preregistration costs $20, and a T-shirt and dog bandana is included in that price. To register, visit

Dogs on a leash are welcome to participate. The race begins at The Overlook on Spring Street and Riverside Drive in Jeffersonville.

Annual chocolate stroll hits city

The annual chocolate Stroll will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 9, in downtown Jeffersonville.

The event offers ticket-buyers the opportunity to taste many different chocolates from brownies and candies to cookies and cake. Chocolate tasting stations will be located within the locally owned shops and restaurants and five live music acts will be playing along the historic district’s sidewalks. Only 500 tickets will be sold.

On the day of the event, ticket-buyers must first visit the registration area in the Glossbrenner Garden, at the corner of Spring and Chestnut Street, where they will pick up their map to visit participating shops for a tasting of chocolates. The event takes place within a four block area of downtown.

Advance tickets are $8 [$3 for children 12 and under], $10 the day of the event [$5 for children 12 and under]. Tickets are available online at and at: Choices Boutique, 437 Spring St.; Schimpff’s Confectionery, 347 Spring St.; and The Springs Salon & Spa, 234 Spring St.

ArtsBIZ to feature marketing advice

Arts Bridge Inc. of Southern Indiana will host “ArtsBIZ — Business Development Tools for Working Artists” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Endris Lodge in Lapping Park, Clarksville.

Casey Findley Musgrove, assistant professor of marketing at Indiana University Southeast, will present “Finding Your Target Market.” Artists from all disciplines and interested members of the general public are welcome to attend and participate in this free educational and networking opportunity.

Future ArtsBIZ sessions will be held on July 10, Sept. 11 and Nov. 13. Arts Bridge Inc. is a nonprofit arts service organization that strengthens the arts by providing information, education and resources to artists and arts-providing organizations.

Library hosting ‘after Derby’ events

The Charlestown-Clark County Public Library will be conducting an after Derby party creating unique garlands. Or, create a garland for Mother's Day. All materials will be provided. Dates and times are:

Habitat holding women’s build event

New Albany/Floyd County Habitat for Humanity’s inaugural Women Build Opening Ceremony will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 5, at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, New Albany.

They will serve refreshments, recognize the 2014 Women Build teams and lunch sponsors, and briefly speak about National Women Build Week.

Women from the Southern Indiana/Louisville Metro area have committed raising money and building for New Albany/Floyd Co. Habitat for Humanity from May 6-10.

Each Women Build team will build for half a day with donated lunches for volunteer crews commencing at noon.
