Jeffersonville Police Department makes multiple heroin-related arrests

Traffic stop, home search leads to drug seizures

JEFFERSONVILLE —  The Jeffersonville Police Department has made several heroin-related arrests in recent days.

In each of the arrests, JPD Detective Isaac Parker said a “significant amount” of heroin was seized by police.

A vehicle driven by Shane L. Guthrie, 29, of Mockingbird Drive in Jeffersonville, was pulled over about 11 p.m.. Thursday near East Park Place and Gilmore Avenue.

Parker said the JPD officer could see cocaine in plain view on the vehicle’s floorboard during the stop.

He said when the officer checked Guthrie, he was found in possession of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, prescription narcotics and marijuana.

He was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex.

Guthrie was preliminarily charged with dealing cocaine or narcotic drug, a class A felony, possession of cocaine/narcotics, a class B felony, and possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of controlled substance, all class D felonies, and A misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Police responded to Alyson Circle Apartments in the 1500 block of East 10th Street in Jeffersonville Wednesday afternoon to serve a warrant for the arrest of Tavon Hyman, 23, Parker said.

A warrant was issued out of Clark County Circuit Court No. 2 for Hyman’s arrest earlier in the day.

He was wanted on the following charges for alleged crimes that occurred between June 3 and June 19: five counts dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug within 1,000 feet of a family housing complex (conspiracy to commit), all class A felonies; two counts possession of cocaine/narcotics within 1,000 feet of a family housing complex, both class B felonies; possession of cocaine or narcotics within 1,000 feet of school property, a class B felony; and maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony.

Parker said when police arrived at the home, heroin, several hundred dollars and a handgun were seized by police.

Hyman was preliminarily charged with dealing in controlled substance, a class A felony, possession of firearm by serious felon, a class B felony, and maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony.

Hyman’s next court date had not been updated on online court records as of press time.
