Police: Man urinates on Charlestown PD cruiser

Man tells police it was all an act

CHARLESTOWN — A Jeffersonville man was arrested after police said he urinated on a patrol car parked in front of the Charlestown Police Department on Tuesday night.

Wesley Robert Meland, 26, of 505 Webster Blvd., has been preliminarily charged with criminal mischief and public intoxication, both class B misdemeanors, and public indecency, a class C misdemeanor.

Police reported Meland, accompanied with an unidentified woman, was seen urinating on the rear of the CPD patrol cruiser about 11:25 p.m. by several police officers inside the station via a video surveillance monitor. According to a police report, Meland and the woman were initially seen standing by the rear of the vehicle before he unzipped his pants and urinated on the vehicle.

The officer who the vehicle belonged to ran outside of the department and saw Meland zipping up his pants and turning to run, according to the report. The officer yelled for Meland to stop, and he complied.

“I asked Meland what he was doing, and he stated, ‘nothing,’” the officer reported.

When the officer told Meland he had observed the crime, Meland replied, “I didn’t pee on your police car. I was just acting like as was going to, to show off for a female,” according to the report.

When the officer pointed out the urine dripping off the rear of the vehicle onto the ground, Meland continued his denial by admitting that he had exposed himself and only acted like he was going to urinate, “as a joke.”

As the officer spoke with Meland, he noticed the odor of alcohol coming from his breath, at which time he was placed into custody and taken into the police department.

While in the department, Meland provided a .18 blood alcohol concentration during a portable breath test. He was later booked into the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex in Jeffersonville.
