CRIME BRIEFS: Man accused of pointing gun; son admits to stealing mom's car

CLARK COUNTY — Report: Son steals mom’s car

A mother and son from Georgia had stopped at Sellersburg’s Ramada Home Lodge on May 18 while traveling to Wisconsin. The mother woke early the next morning to find her purse, wallet, cell phone, 2003 Mitsubishi Montero and her son, 30-year-old Christopher Warlick, gone. The woman called police to report the theft at 1:30 a.m.

Sellersburg police arrived at the Ramada and spoke with the woman who said her son has stolen from her in the past and that he had a drug problem.

Sellersburg police contacted Indiana State Police to put out at attempt to locate the vehicle. At about 11 a.m., Sellersburg police was alerted that Scottsburg police had located Warlick and the vehicle behind Quality Inn in Scottsburg. According to the affidavit, Warlick had called Scottsburg police and reported he had stolen his mother’s vehicle. Scottsburg police reported that Warlick said he had backed the vehicle down an embankment to a wooded area and had slept in the vehicle overnight. The vehicle was reported to have been damaged from being driven down the embankment.

After Warlick was taken into custody, he admitted to stealing the vehicle and fraudulently withdrawing hundreds of dollars from his mother’s account by using her debit card.

Warlick was later charged in Clark County Circuit Court No. 3 with auto theft, fraud, and theft, all class D felonies.

Arrests made after cocaine deal

Clarksville police arrested two Louisville teenagers May 16 following a controlled drug buy.

Police set up the transaction to purchase crack cocaine from Joseph Danzel Hale, 19, who had previously been identified as a person who delivered and sold the drug at Courtyard Square Apartments on Greentree Boulevard. The drug deal was scheduled in the morning hours in front of an apartment complex next to Parkwood Elementary School.

When Hale, and DeShawn Jarrelle Williams, 19, arrived at the meeting location about 11 a.m. in a minivan, police noted in the probable-cause affidavit that school children were playing nearby.

During the transaction, two grams of crack cocaine were purchased for $200.

Officers allowed Hale and Williams to leave the immediate area and a traffic stop was made nearby on Greentree Boulevard. Police found in the vehicle the $200 used to buy the cocaine tucked into the side of seat.

The substance received during the deal field tested positive as cocaine, police reported, and both men were taken into custody and later charged in Clark County Circuit Court No. 2.

“When asked, [Williams] stated that he did not know that [Hale] was selling drugs and did not know what was going on,” according to the affidavit. “When I asked [Hale], he stated he didn’t know what was going on and if [Williams] was selling drugs, it was news to him.”

Hale has been charged with conspiracy to commit dealing in cocaine and dealing in cocaine, both class A felonies, and maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony

Williams has been charged with conspiracy to commit dealing in cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and possession of cocaine, all class A felonies, and visiting a common nuisance, a class B misdemeanor.
