New Albany man charged in Clarksville burglary

Police say teenager admitted to taking Xbox games

CLARKSVILLE — A New Albany man is in jail after being charged in a Clarksville home burglary that occurred earlier this month.

Clarksville Police Department officers originally made contact with Jeffrey K. Chandler, 18, of 3416 Deerwood Drive, after he was found intoxicated walking on Sherwood Avenue in Clarksville about noon Jan. 12, police reported.

Officers made the stop after they noticed Chandler stumbling about with XBox video games sticking out of his pockets, police reported.

During the stop, a portable breath test was administered, and Chandler blew a .152 Blood Alcohol Concentration, nearly twice the legal limit for motorists 21 years old and older.

He was then taken to the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex in Jeffersonville on a charge of illegal consumption.

Later in the day, Clarksville police were contacted by a woman who reported that several XBox games had been stolen from her home.

Police responded to the woman’s home and determined the burglary to have been committed by Chandler, as the property stolen from the home matched that of the Xbox games found in Chandler’s possession.

Officials with the Clark County jail said Chandler was released Jan. 15.

Clarksville police made contact with Chandler on Monday, Jan. 21, at which time he admitted the burglary of the Xbox games, and he was again booked into the jail on a class B felony burglary charge.

Chandler’s case is being heard in Clark County Circuit No. 4, but the date of his next court appearance had not been updated as of press time.
