Dance for a good cause

The Clarksville Police Department Foundation, Inc., presents The Policeman’s Ball from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Feb. 14.

The event will be held at the Clarion Hotel, 505 Marriott Drive, Clarksville. The night will include live entertainment, a cash bar, door prizes and hors d’oeurves.

Tickets are $30 per ticket or $50 per couple. To purchase tickets, call Danna at 812-283-1509.

A taste of Britain fundraiser

The Clarksville Sister Cities Association will hold its inaugural “English Pub Night” fundraiser, 6 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 17, at St. Anthony School’s cafeteria, 320 N. Sherwood Ave., Clarksville.

Get a taste of what life is like in Great Britain. The night will include a fish and chips dinner, beer and wine tastings, and team trivia. The trivia questions will be based on English culture as well as Clarksville’s Sister City, Bewdley, England. Those wishing to attend may bring their own team, or join a team once they arrive.

Tickets are being sold for $20, and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 812-283-1504. Space is limited so residents are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. All the money raised will benefit the Clarksville’s Sister Cities Association.

Schedule: Dinner 6 to 7 p.m.; Team trivia 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Plunge in to Special Olympics

The seventh annual Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Southern Indiana will begin at 11 a.m., Feb. 15, at Deam Lake, Borden. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Annual Mardi Gras bash set

Join Goodwill of Southern Indiana for the 15th annual Mardi Gras Bash from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Horseshoe Southern Indiana in Elizabeth.  

The event is Goodwill of Southern Indiana’s largest annual fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit services for children and adults with disabilities and disadvantages.

The will feature a dinner buffet, cash bar, live Dixieland jazz performed by The West Market Street Stompers, a silent and live auction and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $75 each and tables of eight are available.

NEW ALBANY

Horseshoe offers grants seminar

Charitable organizations which serve Floyd County and are interested in learning more about the Horseshoe Foundation grant application process are invited to attend a grant seminar being offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27.

The meeting will be held in the Floyd County Branch of the YMCA of Southern Indiana in the first floor multipurpose room, 33 State St., New Albany.

Participants may bring a brown bag meal. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required by calling 812-945-4332 or sending an e-mail to staff@horseshoefoundation.org to ensure enough materials are on hand.

The grants seminar will include information about the grant process, how to make your proposal stand out, and pitfalls to avoid when submitting a grant application.

To be eligible to be considered for a grant, completed applications must be delivered to the foundation office or postmarked by March 31, 2014. All previous final grant reports must be completed.

FLOYDS KNOBS

Dance marathon benefits Riley

Floyd Central High School,  6575 Old Vincennes Road, Floyds Knobs,  will hold its fourth annual Dance Marathon to benefit Indianapolis’ Riley Hospital for Children from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The first marathon held at Floyd Central in 2011 raised $17,572.44; last year, that amount grew to $45,003.62. This year’s goal is $47,500.

The very first Dance Marathon began in 1991 at Indiana University. Today there are 37 additional schools holding Dance Marathons to benefit Riley Hospital for Children.

Floyd Central students, who take the role of “dancers,”, will remain standing for six hours in honor of the kids at Riley who cannot do so. During the day they will dance, play games, make crafts and meet Riley kids and their families and hear some amazing stories from the families at Riley.
