Councilwoman hosting public event
Clark County Councilwoman Kelly Khuri will be hosting her second monthly series titled “Know Your County Government.” This event will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, at the Jeffersonville Public Library, 211 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville.
The speaker for this event will be Clark County Assessor Vicky Kent-Haire. Topics will include how to appeal your assessment and how to use the Geographic Information Systems.
Book discussion and lunch
In conjunction with the adult summer reading challenge, the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., is hosting a book discussion and lunch at noon Monday, July 29, in the library auditorium to discuss “Dakota: A Spiritual Geography” by Kathleen Norris.
From the award-winning author of “Amazing Grace,” Norris tells stories about life on the Great Plains and its influence on the human spirit.

NAHS holding 50-year reunion
New Albany High School class of 1963 will hold a 50-year reunion Aug. 2-4.
On Aug. 2, a gathering will be at Newlin Hall, 2818 Green Valley Road, New Albany, for an evening of fun, food, drinks, games and auctions. Music will be provided by the Monarchs.
On Aug. 3, a dinner and dance will be held at the Calumet Club Ballroom, 1614 East Spring St., New Albany. Dance music will be from “The Doctors of Swing,” a big band orchestra.
The brunch Aug. 4 will be at La Bocca, 134 E. Market St. New Albany. There will be champagne and music to accompany the Italian brunch buffet.

Family class being offered
Floyd Memorial Birthing Center is offering a free New Family Fundamentals Class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, Paris Health Education Center, 1850 State Street, New Albany.
Meet Floyd Memorial Birthing Center’s certified nurse midwife Carla Layne as she presents the class: “Midwives, Doulas and Dads class.” Learn how a midwife can help during pregnancy, labor and delivery. Layne will provide new insight on natural and interventional births. Dads can become better prepared, too, by discovering fathering basics.
Plus, a doula will be introduced and will discuss how doulas can provide education and support for both parents.
