Auto supplier coming to River Ridge in Jeffersonville

Company, which has not been named, will bring 250 jobs this summer

JEFFERSONVILLE — Officials with America Place Business Park announced a new company will soon be moving into its 86-acre property in the River Ridge Commerce Center.

America Place did not disclose the name of its new lease holder, but said it is an automotive supplier and Fortune 500 company that is expected to bring more than 250 jobs to Jeffersonville and be fully operational by Sept. 1.

Debbie Smith, managing director of America Place, addressed area media Monday while standing in an empty, recently constructed 150,000-square-foot building that the new company will soon occupy.

The River Ridge site is ideal for America Place as it offers prospective tenants convenient access to the east end portion of the Ohio River Bridges Project. Companies that locate to River Ridge will also have the option to transport cargo on several major area interstates and through the Louisville International Airport, railways and the Port of Indiana.

Smith said the unnamed company that will be moving into the building will have the option to expand into another 150,000-square-foot building that will soon be built in an adjacent space.

America Place’s “warehouse campus design” includes four other large buildings, which, when built, will offer nearly 1 million square feet with the capacity to bring approximately 2,500 jobs to the area.

Smith said work has already begun on a second structure that is “almost pad ready.” She said more than six companies have expressed interest in leasing the building.

America Place is attempting to build facilities on its property that will be economically and visually appealing to its customers.

“The vision is a campus,” Smith said. “We want to build homes for our companies. We want our companies to have their logos [displayed], make them feel individualized and special with landscaping and architecture.”

She said it will take approximately six years to complete the envisioned America Place campus and that it will come with a price tag ranging from $75 million to $100 million.

Monday’s announcements comes on the heels of Switzerland-based auto parts manufacturer Autoneum revealing plans in February to build a 300,000 square-foot building at 100 River Ridge Parkway, which is a future road through the commerce center that will connect to the first interchange to the east-end bridge and possibly extend to the Clark Regional Airport.

In March, the Jeffersonville Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved Autoneum’s plans, which will create 220 new jobs by 2018.

Autoneum’s plans include two entrances into the building with one from the eastern side, external relief panels and a temporary end wall for a possible building extension up to 411,700 square feet.

Bonds approved earlier this month have set the stage for development and infrastructure.

Your Community Bank, in partnership with several other Indiana and Kentucky banks, is issuing River Ridge $20 million in bonds to cover the costs of road, sewer and rail improvements as well as River Ridge’s $6 million commitment to a heavy haul road that will connect the east-end bridge interchange to Ind. 62.

The 6,000-acre industrial and business park received $8.5 million in bonds from Your Community Bank at the end of 2011.
