Family class being offered

Floyd Memorial Birthing Center is offering a free New Family Fundamentals Class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, July 31, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, Paris Health Education Center, 1850 State Street, New Albany.

Meet Floyd Memorial Birthing Center’s certified nurse midwife Carla Layne as she presents the class: “Midwives, Doulas and Dads class.” Learn how a midwife can help during pregnancy, labor and delivery. Layne will provide new insight on natural and interventional births. Dads can become better prepared, too, by discovering fathering basics.

Plus, a doula will be introduced and will discuss how doulas can provide education and support for both parents.

Sunnyside Solo’s Square Dance Club will be hosting open houses at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16.

A variety of delicious melons will be served Aug. 2. On Aug. 16, guests will make their own ice cream sundaes.

Anyone interested in square dancing can come to an open house and try it for free. The open houses will b held at Wesley Chapel-Grant Line Church, 4810 Grant Line Road, New Albany. For more information, call 812-945-0878.

Gallery to feature new exhibit

The Gallery on Pearl will feature four area artists in its upcoming display titled “Creativity Through Form and Function.”

The display will include wood, ceramic, and glass blown pieces by the artists Kerry Zimmerman, Cheryl Ulrich-Barnett, Joe Oberhausen and Steve Goodwin, and the exhibit will run from Aug. 1 through Sept. 28.

The exhibit will kickoff with a reception and artist talk from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 1 at The Gallery on Pearl, which is located inside The White House Centre at 222 Pearl St. in downtown New Albany.

The Sons of Liberty to perform

The Sons of Liberty will perform classic Southern Gospel at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at New Beginnings Community Church, 104 Wooded Valley Drive, New Albany.
