1si names winners at annual awards dinner

25th Anniversary Program held at Huber’s Plantation Hall

STARLIGHT — One Southern Indiana’s 25th annual business awards dinner was held at Huber’s Plantation Hall Tuesday and almost 500 attendees celebrated the success of local and regional businesses. 

Paul Moses, a director for the Purdue Research Foundation as well as a former journalist and news anchor, served as emcee. Vern Eswine, president of the Marketing Company, led the invocation. 

The program recognized three finalists in seven categories and each finalist was showcased in a customized video before representatives of each award’s sponsor announced the winners. 

 “All of this year’s finalists exemplify the spirit of innovation that Southern Indiana and the metro Louisville area is known for,” said One Southern Indiana President and CEO Wendy Dant Chesser. “These entrepreneurs and business leaders are not only committed to the success of their companies, but also to our city’s communities and economy. We are thrilled to honor these businesses and professionals.” 

 This year’s winners include:


River Valley Financial Bank Business of the Year Award [less than 25 employees]: Hawkeye Security and Electronics, Inc.


True Colors Tanning Business of the Year Award [more than 25 employees]:  MAC Construction and Excavating, Inc.


L&D Mail Masters Rising Star Award [businesses up to 5 years old]:  Kirchner Dental


Sam Day, Kightlinger & Gray Professional of the Year Award: Kent W. Lanum, Paul Ogle Foundation, Inc.


Kevin Hammersmith Duke Energy Community Leader of the Year Award: Miguel Hampton, F5 Enterprises, LLC and Sancho Miguel’s Salsa


Axiom Financial Strategies of Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC Partnership Spirit Award:  Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County and Indiana University Southeast


Stites and Harbison, PLLC Economic Development Impact Award: 

• Amazon Fulfillment Center in Jeffersonville – Project of the Year

• Advanced Metal Technologies – Honorable Mention

• Keystone Automotive Industries, Inc. – Honorable Mention

The winners were chosen from an independent panel of judges based on criteria of business history, community involvement, response to adversity, newly-created opportunities, and innovation in products or services.
