A dirty joke? Jeffersonville street cleaning notices not from the city

JEFFERSONVILLE — The city of Jeffersonville may be the target of a late April Fools’ joke.

A notice was apparently placed on cars along 11th Street this week announcing there was going to be street cleaning on Wednesday. The problem is that Streets and Sanitation Commissioner David Hosea said his office did not place the notice on the cars.

“We don’t even have the sweepers out yet,” he said at the Board of Public Works meeting Wednesday morning. “It’s not even on my letterhead.”

The notice used the city’s symbol, but it was not on its official letterhead. The notice did cause some anger among the residents because it read that “any vehicle left on the street will be towed at the owner’s expense.”

CONTRACTS APPROVED

A contract with RT Solutions was unanimously approved totaling $4,825 for painting to be done in City Hall.

One other bid was submitted for the work at a cost of $6,600. The contract was passed on to the board of public works by the city’s building authority with a favorable recommendation.

Another contract was approved between the city and Watson Water Co. to allow the city to place communication equipment on the water tower located off Ind. 62 near the Ind. 265 interchange.

The contract is $1 per year and was entered into with Watson so the water company’s liability is limited in relation to the equipment, said City Attorney Les Merkley.
