JEFFERSONVILLE — A Japan-based company is the latest in the litany of businesses with plans to locate in River Ridge Commerce Center.
American Fuji Seal Inc., with American operations headquartered in Bardstown, Ky., has initiated a purchase agreement with the River Ridge Development Authority. However, the deal has yet to be finalized.
According to the purchase agreement obtained through a public records request, American Fuji Seal is planning to purchase more than 23 acres of property located directly behind the 1 million-square-foot Amazon.com, Inc. fulfillment center.
The total estimated purchase price for the property is $1.04 million.
American Fuji Seal creates a variety of packaging materials, equipment and services, including shrink sleeve labels, in-mold labels and thermo-shield Insulating labels.
In addition to the new facility planned at River Ridge, last year the company expanded its Bardstown, Ky. operation with a $10 million investment expected to create 45 jobs. More than 400 employees were already employed at the Bardstown facility.
The building being constructed at River Ridge will add another location of about 300,000 square feet, according to requirements outlined in the purchase agreement.
The international company is the latest in a number of announced locations and expansions in River Ridge Commerce Center.
Last week, America Place at River Ridge officially broke ground on what will eventually become three warehouses that will house manufacturing and/or distribution centers.
The first building will be a 150,000-square-foot space, and the second and third phases are slated to be 200,000 square feet and 320,000 square feet, respectively. The total investment is expected to total more than $30 million and will eventually employ more than 1,500 people.
In addition, a $7.3 million expansion was recently completed at Mr. P Express, a contract shipping company, Amazon.com announced in February an expansion to utilize the full 1 million-square-foot space, and another announcement last week stated that 360 jobs will be coming to the commerce center as Dayton, Ohio-based The Standard Register Co. announced its location to the former US. Census Bureau building along Patrol Road.
Multiple calls to American Fuji Seal were not returned as of press time.
Officials at River Ridge also said they could not comment on the purchase agreement until the deal has been finalized.
While it is still unclear when the deal will become official or when American Fuji Seal will close on the property, it is expected to happen soon.
River Ridge Executive Director Jerry Acy would also not comment directly about the purchase agreement with American Fuji Seal, but he said River Ridge is hopeful that it will have a couple closings this month.
