NEW ALBANY

Brandon’s House walkathon April 14

The annual walkathon for Brandon’s House Counseling Center, Inc., 1618 Beeler St., New Albany, will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, at DePauw Methodist Church, across from New Albany High School. 

 The event is the biggest fundraiser for Brandon’s House, a nonprofit agency that gives away master’s level counseling to teenagers and families in the community. Brandon’s House depends almost entirely upon community support. 

Brandon’s House will be holding an open house for the walkathon from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, March 18, through Thursday, March 21. Stop by Brandon’s House to register. Walkers who register by Friday, April 5, will be entered in a drawing for a free pair of custom-fit walking and running shoes from Pacers and Racers. Walkathon T-shirts will be just $7 during the week of the open house, $10 after March 21.

Hour of Power chili cookoff

Hour of Power, 108 West Main St., New Albany, is hosting a chili cookoff, 7 p.m., March 15, at the church.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny 

The Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1693 and New Albany Optimist Club are hosting a breakfast with the Easter Bunny, 1919 Grant Line Road, New Albany, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23. Admission is $5.

The menu includes pancake on a stick, muffins, fruit, juice, milk, coffee and a visit with the Easter Bunny. There will also be crafts in the garden.

HIBERNIA

Annual coon supper set

Owen Township Homemakers Club’s annual coon supper will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Hibernia Community Building. The price is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12 years old.

A drawing for a handmade quilt and several other items will also be held. Tickets for the drawing are $1 per ticket or six tickets for $5. You do not have to be present to win.

Proceeds from the supper and drawing will be used for the upkeep of the Hibernia Community Building.

 

CLARK COUNTY

Reception to honor Reba Colley

Purdue Extension Educator Reba Colley will be retiring on March 31, 2013, after 20 plus years of service with Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service.

The Clark County Extension Board will host a reception in her honor from 3 to 6 p.m., March 19, at the Clark County Extension Office, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown. Everyone is invited.

FLOYD COUNTY

Historical Society meeting March 26

The Floyd County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, in the Elsa Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.  

Greg Phipps will present the program entitled “The Stained Glass Windows of New Albany.” The meeting is free and open to the public.

 

SELLERSBURG

Legion Post hosting district meeting

The American Legion Post 204 of Sellersburg will host the 8th District meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Sellersburg American Legion, 412 N. New Albany St., Sellersburg.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. All members of the American Legion family are invited to attend. The department officers of the American Legion Auxiliary from Indianapolis will also be in attendance. For more information, call 812-246-4064.

 

Hidden Hill Kite Extravaganza is March 30

Hidden Hill Nursery and Sculpture Garden, 1011 Utica-Charlestown Road in Jeffersonville, will celebrate the opening of a new season with its annual Kite Flying Extravaganza on March 30.

Bring your own kite or build one while you’re there and let it fly high all day; Thomas the Tank Engine will be making the rounds on the G-scale railroad and Bob Hill will give a Hidden Hill tour of “Great Spring Plants” at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
