A building that formerly housed a dry cleaner on Court Avenue is set to be taken down, starting Friday.
The former dry cleaners at 119 Court Ave. sits at the end of a strip mall containing Adrienne and Co. Bakery and Café and Benton Fine Jewelry and is being taken down because it is in disrepair. It is also believed that the building’s grounds may be contaminated because of dry cleaning chemicals used when it was still in operation.
City Engineer Andy Crouch said the plans are to complete the destruction of the building from Friday Nov. 1 to Friday, Nov. 8
He said as a result of the work, the sidewalk along Court Avenue in front of the building and the street lane closest to the sidewalk will be closed.
ANOTHER ROAD CLOSURE
A request to close the intersection at Main Street and East Court Avenue was approved to allow for Dan Cristiani Excavating Co. Inc. to complete an emergency sewer replacement. During the closure, a landscaping island on Jackson Street to East Charlestown Avenue will be removed in order to allow access to the homes and apartments in the area.
The closure is expected to begin Nov. 11 and last through Nov. 15, weather permitting. The landscaping island will be replaced when work has been completed.
