Library group selling books
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, the Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold its book sale in the library’s Annex Building, at the corner of Spring Street and Scribner Drive.
All books having to do with horror will be discounted by 50 percent.
Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks; 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes; and 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less.
Learn about rain gardens
The Clark/Floyd County Green Infrastructure Alliance is sponsoring a rain garden workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct.. 23, at Cricket’s Cafe, Sellersburg. Lunch will be catered by Cricket’s and is included in the $30 cost of the workshop. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.
The workshop will give participants an in-depth insight into the workings of rain gardens, from designing, to plant selection, to installation, and finally to maintenance.

Save Our School hosting benefit
Save Our School’s stroll down memory lane benefit, sponsored by the Old Utica School Preservation group, will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 208 S. Fourth St., Utica.
The schedule is: food starts at noon; car show from 1 to 5 p.m.; live auction at 4 p.m.; 1950s sock hop dance from 5 to 10 p.m. ; live music from 5:30 p.m. Food will be priced at $6 for adults and $3 for kids.
Festival coming to Jacob’s Well
The public is invited to a free Harvest of Hope Festival at Jacob’s Well, 605 Old Salem Road, Utica, starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19.
The event will include a chili supper, games, and a blacklight puppet show by the Wesley Chapel’s puppet ministry.
