CLARKSVILLE

Special needs baseball team forming

The Clarksville Challenger team is a special needs baseball team comprised of boys and girls of all ages. This is a noncompetitive league whose mission is simply to have fun playing the game of baseball.

The league is expanding for 2013 and seeks interested players to join. Games are played on Thursday evenings in May and June at the Clarksville Little League complex and players from throughout Southern Indiana are accepted. Registration is under way and will conclude Saturday, March 2.

Hospital offering pain seminar

Floyd Memorial Hospital is offering a free bone and joint pain seminar from 6 to 7 p.m., March 7, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in the Main Street classroom. This is an opportunity for those who are having trouble with activities like walking, golf, bowling, swimming and gardening due to pain in the knees or hips, to learn about advanced treatments that may offer dramatic relief. An orthopedic surgeon and nurse will discuss medications and exercise, and explain the latest technology for joint replacement surgery.

Soup/chili cook-off at the NA-FC Library

The Food for Thought cookbook group is sponsoring a soup/chili cook-off at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6. 

Entrants should bring four quarts of heated soup in a crock pot to the Strassweg Auditorium. Judging will begin at 6:45 p.m. Bring a recipe for the soup to share with the other attendees. Three prizes will be awarded: First and second place as selected by the judges and best soup and best chili as selected by the attendees. Everyone is invited to sample and vote for the best soup and chili.
