Three people were arrested by Clarksville police after stealing more than $1,000 in baby formula from Walmart Sunday afternoon, police reported.
Officers were dispatched to the store along Veterans Parkway at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday in reference to several adult shoplifters leaving the property in a vehicle.
The incident resulted in the arrest of Toni Maddox, 47; Theodore Woodard, 51; and Keith Sanders, 51, all of Louisville.
Responding police found the suspect’s vehicle traveling on Greentree Boulevard and made a traffic stop in the nearby Sears parking lot.
As the officer spoke with Sanders, who was behind the wheel, he reported seeing in plain view approximately 100 cans of baby formula in the back seat.
After all three occupants got out of the vehicle, a further search revealed a cigarette pack containing several crack pipes coated with residue.
Woodard told he officer the glass pipes belonged to him.
A plastic bag containing “what appeared to be crack rocks” was found in Sanders’ pocket during the stop, the police report stated.
The substance did not test positive for cocaine, according to the report.
Woodard and Sanders told police they abused crack cocaine.
Woodard and Maddox admitted to police they had been in the store, put the merchandise in a shopping cart and left without paying.
All three were preliminarily charged with theft and possession of stolen property, both class D felonies.
Maddox was also preliminarily charged with trespassing, a class A misdemeanor.
Sanders was also preliminarily charged with possession of a look-alike drug, a class D felony.
Woodard was additionally preliminarily charged with possession of paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.
