Road to close next week for bridge painting

JEFFERSONVILLE —

East Market Street in Jeffersonville will be closed starting next week to allow for painting of the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge.

Crews have already begun painting the Indiana approach to the bridge, sandblasting off the old paint and applying the first coat of primer. In order to paint the bottom section of the bridge, crews will need to close East Market Street.

East Market Street will be closed between Missouri and Southern Indiana avenues beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, and will remain closed for about two weeks.

During this closure, motorists should follow the signed detour via Southern Indiana Avenue, East Riverside Drive and Missouri Avenue.

As painting continues, some lane or sidewalk closures on the bridge will be necessary. Lane closures will be restricted to evenings from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is managing the project and awarded the contract to paint the Indiana approach to G Force Contracting in the amount of $494,494. The anticipated completion date for the project is July 31.
