Grants available to increase investment downtown Jeffersonville

Applications are now available

Jeffersonville Main Street Inc., a nonprofit downtown revitalization organization, announced Wednesday that grants are available through its Front Porch Project to increase investment in the residential areas of Jeffersonville’s downtown district.

This economic development project has been recognized as a model for other communities, as Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. received a Downtown Revitalization Award from the state of Indiana for the project.

“The Front Porch Project helps ensure that homes in our community’s oldest neighborhoods are well maintained and attractive places to live,” said Executive Director of Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. Jay Ellis, in the release. “Strengthening the residential neighborhoods in downtown also helps strengthen downtown Jeffersonville’s business district.”

The grant program is named the Front Porch Project because front porches are an architectural feature commonly found on homes in the downtown area and they characterize the feel of older neighborhoods. However, these grants are for exterior improvements and not limited to work on front porches.

Owner-occupied residences are eligible for grants up to $3,000, which must be matched by an equal amount [grant recipients will be required to match any funding they receive with their own money]. The program is made possible through a partnership between Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. and the Jeffersonville Urban Enterprise Association. The boundaries of the Front Porch Project are the Jeffersonville Urban Enterprise Zone and the Old Jeffersonville National Register District.

Applications and guidelines for the grants are available online at
