Gov. Pence fills 6 seats on state school board; will serve four-year terms

Henryville principal named to state post

INDIANAPOLIS —

Gov. Mike Pence is filling six seats on the 10-member State Board of Education, including one with a Clark County principal.

Pence said Thursday that Marian University President Dan Elsener and first-grade teacher Sarah O’Brien will serve another four years starting July 1. They’ll be joined by four new members.

The members are chosen from Indiana’s congressional districts.

Henryville High School Principal Troy Albert will represent the 9th District on the board and conservative columnist Andrea Neal will represent the 5th District seat. National education expert David Freitas will represent the 2nd District and former Republican House candidate Brad Oliver will represent the 6th District.

The 11-member panel plays a key role in setting education policy.

School Superintendent Glenda Ritz chairs the panel, but the other 10 members are picked by the governor.
