Work on bridges continues this weekend

Lanes to close elsewhere as well

> SOUTHERN INDIANA —

Work on the Interstate 65 Kennedy Bridge will continue this weekend, with lane closures beginning Friday, June 14.

Two of the three southbound lanes of I-65 will be affected. The work is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday, with lanes reopening by 5 a.m. Monday.

The right two lanes of I-65 southbound will be closed from just north of the Kennedy Bridge in Jeffersonville, to the far south end of the bridge in downtown Louisville. Southbound traffic will be limited to one lane. The entrance ramp from Court Avenue in Jeffersonville to southbound I-65 will be closed during the weekend work.

All lanes and exit ramps at the south end of the Kennedy Bridge will remain open. The Exit 0 ramp from southbound I-65 to West Market Street in Jeffersonville will be open.

I-65 lanes to close

Emergency patching will close lanes on Interstate 65 this weekend.

The Indiana Department of Transportation will close I-65 lanes beginning at 9 p.m. today, June 14, and the closures will continue through Saturday afternoon. The right northbound lane of I-65 between mile markers 17.7 and 18.1 and the southbound right lane between mile markers 20 and 18.2 will be affected. Traffic backups are anticipated between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and motorists are advised to plan accordingly. An alternate route offered is U.S. 31, which can be accessed from exits 16, 19 and 29.

Gohmann Construction, the state’s contractor for the project, will remove and replace sections of deteriorating pavement. Once concrete has been poured, it takes about 20 hours for curing before traffic can be returned to the lanes.

Lane restrictions on Clark Memorial bridge

Traffic on the Clark Memorial Bridge has been reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and lane restrictions will continue throughout the week.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has reduced northbound Clark Memorial Bridge traffic to one lane due to ongoing electrical work. Lane closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and are expected to last for about one week.

Once work is complete on the northbound lanes, crews will shift to the southbound lanes of the bridge, according to a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet press release. The starting date and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
