Arts Bridge talk coming up
Arts Bridge of SE Indiana presents “Art Matters” in a talk and lecture networking series from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 10 at Endris Lodge in Lapping Park, 2404 Greentree North, Clarksville.
Art and Healing with S. Jill Hedges, artist and art therapist, will be discussed. Join a community conversation about creativity in everyday life. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
Hellbender 5K set for April 12
The 11th consecutive Hellbender Hustle 5K Run/Walk will be held at 9 a.m. April 12, at the Hickory Hollow Nature Center of O’Bannon Woods State Park, Corydon.
Part road, part trail, this race is all fun for the entire family. Learn more about hellbenders, a 24-inch salamander, which makes it the largest in North America, and how they are doing in nearby Blue River.
The goal is to raise awareness of the hellbender and other endangered species in the area.

Family Ark fundraiser April 24
Family Ark’s Giving Hope to Families fundraiser will be from 6 to 9 p.m., April 24, in the Lodge on the Family Ark campus, 101 Noah’s Lane, Jeffersonville. The event will feature food from Huber’s Catering, music by local musician Todd Hildreth, and exciting auction items. During the event to benefit child and family programs in Southern Indiana, the 2014 Champion for Families award winner will be announced. Emcee will be Angie Fenton from “Great Day Live!” A Family Ark foster teen will speak about his experiences and successes within his foster family and community.

YMCA, Purdue hold free kids day
The YMCA of Southern Indiana, in partnership with Purdue Extension, is holding a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active.
YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, and Purdue Extension’s Spring Festival features fun, active play, a 1-mile color fun run/walk at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 26, and educational activities, such as a DJ, a bounce house, interactive booths, hands-on 4-H science, crafts and much more to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.
The YMCA of Southern Indiana’s Healthy Kids Day and Prude Extension’s Spring Festival takes place at Purdue Research Park, 3000 Technology Ave., New Albany, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Aebersold Quartet to perform at library
In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, Jamey Aebersold has once again made it possible for members of the community to experience a concert of the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet. The Quartet will perform at 7 p.m. April 30 in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.
In addition to Aebersold, who will be playing alto saxophone, the Quartet will include Steve Allee on piano, Tyrone Wheeler on bass, and Jonathan Higgins on the drums.
Aebersold, a native of New Albany, is an internationally-known jazz musician who has produced jazz educational materials used around the world. For more than 10 years, the Quartet has brought jazz performances to schools in the Southern Indiana/Louisville area.
The show is free and open to the public.
VFW hosts April breakfasts
VFW 3281, 232 E. Fifth St., New Albany, will host breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month. The public is invited.
AARP meeting April 11
AARP, Floyd County Chapter, will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, at St. John's Church, corner of 13th and Elm streets, New Albany.
The speaker will be Floyd County Clerk Christy Eurton regarding the new vote centers. She will be demonstrating the new voting machine.
