LOUISVILLE — A Jeffersonville man was murdered after interrupting a burglary in progress at his place of work in Louisville early Friday morning, police report.

Philip Schultz, 63, Riverview Court, succumbed to “blunt-force trauma” after the attack said Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell.

Mitchell said at least one person carried out the attack, after Schultz arrived to work at Packaging Unlimited located along West Kentucky Street.

Schultz was taken to University of Louisville Hospital where he later died at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mitchell said it remains unclear what the supect[s] were doing in the building when Schultz showed up for work around 4:30 a.m.

“All [Packaging Unlimited] sells are boxes, so I don’t know what their purpose was,” he said of the suspect[s].

Mitchell said no description has been provided of the suspect[s], but police are hoping input from the public will lead to an arrest.

He said the investigation is ongoing.
