Memphis satellite TV employee mauled by dog in Greenville

Man sustained injuries to face, arm; is in stable condition

GREENVILLE — After he was attacked by a dog at a Floyd County home, a DirecTV employee is in stable condition.

Joseph Nalley, 45, Memphis, was attacked by a German shepherd mix at a home where two of his employees were working a job at 3:17 p.m. Thursday at 10775 Nadorff Road.

Jeff Topping with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department said the owner introduced the two workers to the dog when they arrived. She left to walk the dog, but the employees called Nalley, their supervisor, for additional help.

Topping said Nalley arrived while the owner was still out. When she returned, the dog attacked him, leaving several puncture wounds on his arms, along with tearing his lip and other injuries to his face.

Topping said Nalley was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. As of 5 p.m., he was listed in stable condition.

“You always have to be careful around animals, especially when they’re not yours, because you never know when they’re going to do something,” Topping said. “He may not have done anything wrong, but [the dog] may have perceived something he did as a threat.”

David Hall, director of the New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter, said county animal control responded at about 4:30 p.m. He said the owner agreed to have the dog quarantined by a veterinarian. He said the dog’s immunization records, including rabies, were apparently up to date.

“It’s still an open investigation as far as we’re concerned, due to the severity,” Hall said. “We’re looking at it from a severe standpoint whether the dog should be declared a dangerous dog. We have to figure out what occurred and why it happened before we make those decisions.”

Hall said once animal control takes all the steps it needs to with the Floyd County Health Department on the dog’s immunization record and other issues, the owner will make a decision on what to do with the dog.
