Deam Lake offers up firewood for cutting

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — After extensive clearing of hazard trees at Deam Lake State Recreation Area in Borden, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry is offering firewood-cutting permits. All available logs are pine and oak, and the cost of each rick of wood is $3.

Permit holders will be allowed to cut only trees that are on the ground, as cutting standing trees is prohibited. Permits span a two-day period with a maximum quantity of five ricks per permit. Additional permits after the two-day window are available, but there is an annual maximum of 10 ricks per family.

Permit holders must bring their own saw, and a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended. All logs are easily accessible from a hard-surface road. This program is intended for homeowners’ private use and is not intended for resale.

Permits and cutting are only allowed during regular operating hours, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Available dates for cutting are Dec. 11-18 and Jan. 6-17, weather permitting.

For more details, call 812-246-5421.
