NEWS AND TRIBUNE BRIEFS — For June 14

SOUTHERN INDIANA

Registration open for ArchiCamp

Indiana Landmarks, the Howard Steamboat Museum and the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site will offer a two-day ArchiCamp for children ages 8 to 12 on July 22-23 at the Howard Steamboat Museum.

Participants spend both days — from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. — discovering the history of Jeffersonville and New Albany and the landmark architecture in both communities.

Activities will focus on Jeffersonville on the first day, when campers tour the Howard Steamboat Museum. They’ll learn how steamboats work and helped build the city, and play steamboat-related games. On the second day, campers travel to New Albany, where they will experience the simplicity of New Albany’s earliest home — the 199-year-old Scribner House — contrasted with the Victorian opulence of the Culbertson Mansion. There will be plenty of hands-on activities, including using historic tools and a scavenger hunt.

Cost of the camp is $35 and includes refreshments, educational materials and souvenirs. Enrollment for the camp is limited to 15 children. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available.

Reservations for ArchiCamp must be made by July 15. For more information, contact Laura Renwick at Indiana Landmarks, 812-284-4534 or lrenwick@indianalandmarks.org
