$10,000 in drugs found in Jeffersonville home

Police: Marijuana mailed to Jeff man from California

JEFFERSONVILLE — Police found two firearms and $10,000 worth of marijuana and hashish during the search of a home in a Jeffersonville apartment complex Friday, Jan. 25.

Drug officers from the Jeffersonville and Clarksville police departments and the Jeffersonville police SWAT team were involved in the search of the home in the Alyson Circle Apartments complex along East 10th Street.

A resident of the home, Maxwell Lin, 22, was preliminarily charged in the incident with dealing in marijuana — more than 30 grams within 1,000 feet of a family housing complex, a class C felony, and maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony.

Officers reported the search warrant was obtained after an investigation into possible drug trafficking taking place in the home.

“[Lin] had a substantial amount of narcotics in his apartment,” Jeffersonville Police Detective Todd Hollis said. “We believe he was receiving those narcotics through interstate [communication].”

The marijuana and hashish found in the residence is believed to have been received by Lin through mail sent from California.

The drugs were found in vacuum-sealed bags that had been sent through the mail.

Police said drugs supplied via mail is not an uncommon occurrence.

“Narcotics are transported in every way conceivable,” Hollis said. “By boat, by vehicle, by foot, by mail — if there is a way to get material from one place to the other, narcotics traffickers are going to find a way to exploit those systems.”

Hollis said the firearms are not believed to have been stolen, but police will determine if Lin is their proper owner.

A woman, who has not been charged, was the only other person in the home when the search warrant was conducted, Hollis said.

Records did not indicate when Lin would appear in Clark County courts at press time.
