NEW ALBANY

Youth concert coming Monday

A Chadala Youth Artist Series concert will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 13, at St. John Presbyterian  Church, 1307 Elm St., New Albany.

The organist will be David C. Sims, organist at North Christian Church, Columbus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Floyd County AARP to meet

AARP, Floyd County Chapter, will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, at St. John Presbyterian Church, 1307 Elm St., New Albany.

There will be a speaker and 50/50 drawing. Refreshments will be provided and guests are welcome. For more information, call 812-944-9525.

Plant giveaway on the way

From 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 13, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 , the Floyd County Nutrition Coalition will be giving away 300 free tomato plants in the Floyd County YMCA’s main lobby, 33 State St., on a first-come, first-serve basis.

This effort is part of a larger effort to give away 1,000 tomato plants in the Floyd County area to educate people on how to eat healthy as part of the Coalition’s “5 A Day” Campaign.  

Tomato plant recipients will be given educational handouts with tips on how to care for the plant from a local master gardener along with several easy, budget-friendly recipes. Those who receive plants can visit the initiative’s Facebook page at facebook.com/1000TomatoPlantProject to post photos of their plants, recipes and progress.

Window workshop coming to PC

For those wrestling with how to make their historic home more energy-efficient, an upcoming workshop in New Albany will offer solutions. The presentation, entitled “Energy Conservation and Your Historic Home: It’s Not the 1970s Anymore,” will be given by Ron Zmyslo, a historic preservation consultant with Preserve Restore Maintain Indiana with many years’ experience in construction and preservation.

The workshop will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 14,  at the PC Home Center, 123 Cherry St., New Albany.

This workshop is free and open to the public, but reservations are required by Friday, May 10. To make a reservation, contact Indiana Landmarks at 812-284-4534 or south@indianalandmarks.org
