Balloons a no-go

Green Tree Mall maintenance employee Allen Ham battles the wind and rain as he helps dismantle a barricade around a section of the parking lot on the south side of the mall Thursday in Clarksville. The U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Lift-off was canceled from the site at the last minute due to heavy, intermittent rain. Bad luck for the balloons continued this morning, as high winds forced the cancelation of the Great Balloon Rush Hour Race in Louisville. But plans for the Great Balloon Glow — set for 9 tonight — are still on. The events are a precursor to the Great Balloon Race, which is set to start at 7 a.m. Saturday. The glow and the race take place at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center. For more information on the events, visit the Kentucky Derby Festival Web site at
