Charlestown shooting investigation going slow

The Charlestown Police Department says its investigation into a Monday-night shooting that sent one man to the hospital is at a standstill, as conflicting witness statements are making it difficult to get solid descriptions of the suspected shooters.

Officers found 22-year-old Brandon J. Garrett of Charlestown at Casey’s General Convenience Store — near the intersection of Monroe and Market streets — about 6:15 p.m. with a shotgun wound to his leg. He told police he had been shot while walking in the 1500 block of Edgewood Drive, but was able to run to the convenience store for help.

He was taken to University Hospital in Louisville but was released Monday, said Maj. Chuck Ledbetter with the Charlestown Police Department.

Ledbetter said police believe the shooters to be two white men who may have been driving a newer model light blue or tan Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable.

He asks that anyone with information on the shooting contact the police department at 812-256-6345. Anonymous crime tips can also be submitted at CPD’s Web site — — in the “online crime and tip reporting” section of the home page.
